The Story of Clean Popo
Clean Popo was founded in 2010 by Veselin (Ves) Kanchev, a dedicated father and NYC 5-Star Hotel Housekeeper. Ves’ vision was to create a local company that focused on serving the Hoboken and Hudson County area, offering the same fine quality cleaning services and efficiency as the housekeeping teams of the 5-Star hotels he was accustomed to working in. There are teamwork strategies behind keeping NYC's top-notch hotels as sparkling clean as they are. As a veteran of the trade, Ves was well versed in these strategies, and had a clear vision for how to bring them into local homes and businesses. As the company’s list of happy clients began to grow by word of mouth alone, Ves soon realized that he had created a winning formula. Provide high quality, efficient cleaning, outstanding customer service, show up on time, and it is almost impossible not to see success.
As the company grew, it became clear to Ves that in order to continue to provide 5-Star service to his growing client list, he would need to share the responsibilities of managing Clean Popo. As fate would have it, while continuing to work as a housekeeper at a NYC 5-Star hotel, he had met two people who were perfectly suited to the task, each with unique value, and each with the same level of dedication and commitment to the goals of the company. Nick Walker was brought on to handle branding and marketing for Clean Popo as well as client intake and management. Ian Rusiecki, with his extensive experience in customer service, and having previously managed his own small cleaning company, was another great match for Clean Popo, and was brought on as a partner and to serve as our Commercial Sales Manager and on-site Team Leader.
Since joining forces, the trio has seen much success with the Hoboken market, and has expanded their service offering into Jersey City, Weehawken, Secaucus, West New York, and Union City. In 2014, Ian purchased Clean Popo from Ves and currently runs the business.

What's in a Name? Most people laugh when they first hear the name of our company. The next most common reaction is for them to assume that "Popo" means either police or dare I say, something their Hoboken neighbor left behind when walking their dog. Although both good guesses, the name Clean Popo actually has roots in a children's story from 1935 called Popo the Hippopotamus. As a young child, Ves was often read this classic book by his parents before going to bed. Written and illustrated in the same style as the Babar the Elephant series, Popo the Hippopotamus left quite an impression on Ves. When his daughter Bulgari was born in 2010, and Ves was in the process of incorporating his cleaning company, the story of Popo the Hippopotamus began to re-enter his memory. It was Ves' remembrance of his childhood and desire to share the story of Popo the Hippopotamus with his daughter that lead to Clean Popo earning its namesake.
